The Council holds meetings on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the OSU Extension Office in Prineville.
Last year the Crooked River Watershed Council was proud of increasing their delivery of educational programs for local youth. The CRWC secured a grant through OWEB that will allow them to work with local youth to develop small-scale restoration or other watershed-based projects that they will be responsible for developing and implementing. This is an experiential "earn as you learn" approach in partnership with Crook County School District. The council strongly believes that the way to engage society on issues of watershed management is through youth.
The council is engaged in a stream and riparian enhancement project within the city of Prineville that has provided them with an unparalleled opportunity for partnership, education, outreach, and improved stream function and habitat. The council partnered with Ochoco Lumber Company to work on restoring a portion of Ochoco creek that flows through an abandoned mill site. This project included channel re-construction, flood plain enhancement, fish habitat improvement and is part of a long term vision that includes a park and trail system. This project has also been a real benefit for natural resource education and has become an outdoor classroom for local high school students to learn about stream and watershed processes.
