Hood River Watershed Council

3007 EXPERIMENT STN DR
HOOD RIVER, OR 97031         Coordinator:  Steve Stampfli

The council meets the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7pm.

In 2003, the Hood River Watershed Group joined American Rivers, Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs, and five federal and state agencies in transacting a settlement agreement with PacifiCorp to remove the Powerdale Hydroelectric Project Dam at river mile 4.5 of the Hood River.  Dam removal is scheduled in 2010.  In 2006, the watershed group took the lead in finding an organization interested in adopting the corridor and a conservation easement that has been designed to protect the parcel in the future.  A new group called the “Powerdale Lands Stakeholders” is now formulating a request for proposals process, which will ultimately name a new owner of this important riparian parcel.  The property serves as a refuge for six Endangered Species Act-listed fish runs and many important terrestrial wildlife species.
