The Council meets every second Tuesday of the month at 7pm at the Columbia County Extension in St. Helens, 505 North Columbia Highway.
The Council is proud of their Watershed Awareness to Action education program which was carried out in two school districts (Rainier and Clatskanie) in their watershed. They have reached over 600 children through the program. The project assists the local schools in providing a broad science curriculum. The goal of the project was to affect positive action through watershed education in the classroom and in the field. The project presents a classroom curriculum, water quality monitoring, native plant propagation in an existing school greenhouse, and on-the-ground restoration in an adjacent school wetland and a city park. Propagated native plant material will be made available to watershed projects. Education provides the framework to stimulate watershed awareness, which will be the key to long term maintenance of the on-the-ground work that the Council is implementing, and will foster improved practices to build stewardship for the future.
