The Council meets every first Wednesday of the month at 5:30pm at the 5J School District Office in Baker City.
There are many benefits to the Council’s fish passage barrier removal and screening project. It will increase the number of salmonid species by providing greater spawning habitat in the watershed; reduce water diverted from the stream; reduce on site maintenance by the City of Sumpter; enhance riparian vegetation at site; improve bank and channel stability; reduce flood damage; improve instream and riparian habitat; and enable more effective operation even in winter months .
Fish passage barrier and sediment trap presented by current Sumpter Municipal Diversion Structure. New structures (diversion and rock weirs) to be implemented July-August 2007 with funding from Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, US Fish & Wildlife Service, Oregon Department Fish & Wildlife and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation.
