The Claggett Creek Mitigation Project has been sponsored by the Claggett Creek Watershed Council and Marion Soil and Water Conservation District. Project goals for the 1,000 ft. section include improving water quality, restoring wildlife habitat, increasing flood storage capacity, and reconnecting the stream to its floodplains. After bank sections were re-contoured, native trees and shrubs were planted. The project cost was $95,000 and was primarily funded by the Oregon Department of State Lands and the City of Keizer.
The Salem Keizer Urban Watershed Councils Association successfully serves as an umbrella organization facilitating communications and cooperation between several Mid-Willamette Valley watershed organizations. It provides fiscal agent services for several accounts and has expanded fundraising opportunities. The Association representing Claggett and Glenn-Gibson Creeks Watershed Councils has entered into a partnership with the Salem Electric utility to initiate a Habitat Improvement Project which will channel voluntary ratepayer contributions into local restoration and watershed education projects.
