The Scappoose Bay Watershed Council meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM at their office at the Scappoose Bay Marina (Warren, OR).
Three miles of South Scappoose Creek, one of the main salmon-bearing creeks in the watershed, flows through the City of Scappoose. The creek is down-cutting, causing severe erosion and a disconnection with its floodplain at normal high water. In 2009, the council completed a plan for the creek. One of the primary recommendations to improve the health of the creek is to increase the frequency that the creek accesses the floodplain. The Council just completed their first project on S. Scappoose Creek which included excavating the floodplain, pulling back the bank, enhancing a small existing wetland, and installing several engineered log jams to improve salmon habitat.
