The Council meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm at the Santiam Travel Station.

Beginning in 2005, the South Santiam Watershed Council (SSWC) has focused their efforts on controlling the spread of knotweed in the Crabtree and Thomas Creek watersheds.  Over 60 landowners signed up for the program, and they have inventoried over 20 acres of the noxious weeds on these properties.  The program has treated knotweed on approximately 6 river miles, beginning in the upper reaches of the watersheds.  As the spread of knotweed is brought under control, the SSWC plans to replant previously infested areas with native vegetation where appropriate.  One site in particular, a county park, has a heavy infestation and appears to be a likely candidate for plantings and an education component utilizing students from the local high school.  Funding for the project has come through Federal Payments to Counties, grants and an Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board restoration grant.
