In the summer of 2009 in partnership with Clatsop County Road Department UNWC replaced 2 salmon passage barriers with bridges along Tweedle Rd at the Tweedle and George Creek crossings. Both creeks are tributaries to the mainstream Nehalem and are now able to provide migrating adult and juvenile salmon unlimited access to 2.3 miles of spawning and rearing habitat.  In the summer of 2010 in cooperation with the Carmichael family, an adjacent landowner, UNWC was able place 100+ logs in clusters along 1,000 ft. reach of Tweedle creek (downstream of new crossing) to improve aquatic habitat conditions for  juvenile Coho.  In the winter of 2009/10 UNWC restoration crew worked with the Carmichaels to improve riparian forest conditions along ¾ mile of the Nehalem and the lower 1,200 ft. reach of Tweedle creek.  In the summer of 2010 two Oregon Youth Conservation Corp crews funded under the Oregon Youth Employment Initiative worked together to clear competing vegetation from around newly planted riparian trees increasing their chance at survival.  In the fall of 2010 some additional riparian plantings and riparian fencing will be installed along Tweedle Creek giving the landowner the ability to graze cattle while restoring riparian habitat.  Funding for the project was provided by OWEB, USFWS, DEQ 319 and Clatsop County; riparian restoration crews were provided by the UNWC and OYCC; plant materials were provided by the North Coast Native Plant Coop; technical support was provided by the landowner, ODFW, USFWS and the North Coast Land Conservancy.
