The Council meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30pm at the Mac Water Reclamation Facility.
This year the Council is especially excited about the Deer Creek Park Native Wet Prairie Restoration. In partnership with US Fish and Wildlife Service, Institute for Applied Ecology and Yamhill County Parks, the project aims to create a diverse community of grasses, wildflowers, insects and birds. With planting this fall, it will be a few years before the grasses and flowers are established. The Council will continue to be actively involved in management of the site through volunteer activities growing nectar species to plant at the site and building bee and bird boxes with children to be installed at the park. Yamhill County Parks plans to create a raised trail for visitors to better view the wildflowers, birds and butterflies. Institute for Applied Ecology is augmenting the site with Nelson’s checkermallow, a threatened species important to the endangered Fender’s Blue Butterfly. The park is also now part of USFWS Partners Program and the Service will be assisting with maintenance.
