Habitat Protection & Restoration

ODFW-Habitat Program
is one of four principle programs within the Wildlife Division of the agency.  Program objectives are to protect, maintain, and enhance wildlife habitat to meet Oregon’s Wildlife Policy by: 1) manipulating habitat, 2) acquiring land, 3) developing habitat management and restoration techniques, 4) providing technical assistance to state, federal, tribal, and local agencies and individuals; and, 5) providing funding through grants for habitat protection, restoration and enhancement.

ODFW-Land Resources Program - Riparian Lands Tax Incentive  authorized by ORS 308A.350—308A.383, offers a property tax incentive to property owners for improving or maintaining qualifying riparian lands. Under this program, property owners receive complete property tax exemption for their riparian property. This can include land up to 100 feet from a stream.

NOAA Habitat Program works nationwide to protect and restore habitats that support NOAA trust resources that are essential to the long-term health and sustainability of coastal, marine, and Great Lakes ecosystems.

The Oregon Conservation Strategy  focuses on habitat restoration and maintenance to address the needs of game and nongame species— healthy fish and wildlife populations need healthy habitats.

Oregon Nature Conservancy - In Oregon, The Nature Conservancy owns or manages 46 nature preserves and has helped protect over 494,000 acres of important habitat.
